Brown University’s one or two-year, online, STEM master of science in innovation management and entrepreneurship combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills for success in the rapidly evolving world of business and technology.

Brown’s online master of science in innovation management and entrepreneurship, taught by top-tier faculty at the School of Engineering and accomplished practitioners, offers a rigorous curriculum that equips you with core business skills in finance, strategy, marketing, technology evaluation, decision making, globalization and management.

Designed to fit your needs as a busy working professional, courses are delivered completely online, synchronously, allowing you to engage with instructors weekly for in-depth discussions of course content. Opportunity to attend in-person classes is welcomed.

An ideal candidate has at least two years of prior work experience and is looking to advance their existing skill sets. 

This program offers the following degree with two modality options: 

As an online student, you will have access to the same learning resources as on-campus students, including:

  • Rigorous, multidisciplinary curriculum
  • PRIME@Work enables students participate in a semester-long internship or applied project that enables them to apply classroom knowledge in a professional setting.

Application Requirements

GRE Subject:

Not required.

GRE General:

Not required, but score submission is encouraged.

TOEFL/IELTS:

Required for any non-native English speaker who does not have a degree from an institution where English is the sole language of instruction.

The TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition and the IELTS Indicator exam are accepted.
Students from mainland China may submit the TOEFL ITP Plus exam.

The minimum TOEFL score is 105 and the minimum IELTS score is 8.0.

Official Transcripts:

Required. All applicants may upload unofficial transcripts for application submission. Official transcripts are ONLY required for enrolling students before class starts. An international transcript evaluation (WES, ECE, or The Evaluation Company) is required for degrees from non-U.S. institutions before enrollment.

Letters of Recommendations:

Three (3) recommendations required.
Two (2) required for fifth-year applicants.

Recent graduates (within 3 years) and current students should provide at least 2 letters of recommendation from professors who can speak to your coursework/projects related to STEM, innovation technology or entrepreneurship.

Personal Statement:

500-1000 word personal statement that gives your reasons to pursue graduate work within the School of Engineering, and specifically, a Master's in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship. Discuss your interest in technology innovation and/or entrepreneurship and how studying at Brown will further your professional goals.

3 Supplemental Questions required: Use specific examples wherever possible and show how your background, values and career objectives align with PRIME's emphasis on real-world innovation and venture creation.

Two Video Essays

In the two short video recordings, the applicant will address specific questions provided by the program. Applicants will have time to reflect on the question presented prior to responding real-time. Instructions are included in the online application.

Tuition and Funding

  • Graduate Tuition & Fees: Please visit the Student Financial Services Office for up-to-date tuition rates.
  • Scholarships: For domestic or international students, the PRIME program has limited financial aid and scholarships based on a combination of merit and financial need. Scholarship award amounts and types may vary year to year. Students are encouraged to explore work opportunities on the Brown campus. Research and Teaching Assistant positions are available, but not guaranteed, for students. 

Completion Requirements

PRIME is a summer start program. Students are required to complete 6 PRIME courses and 2 graduate level electives; one to two year completion available.

Students select two graduate-level electives that align with their interests and professional goals. Working closely with their faculty advisor, students create an academic plan that may include coursework in areas such as data science, sustainability, healthcare innovation, product design, or emerging technologies, etc.
