Data is messy and complex. Brown’s master’s in business analytics is intentionally designed to begin there. During this program, you’ll master the complete analytics pipeline, learning how to assess data, choose the right analytical approach and generate actionable insights. You’ll develop an understanding of statistical models, predictive analytics, machine learning, multimodal analytics and generative AI and the judgement for when to use each of them in your analysis.

Brown’s business analytics courses build strong data literacy, preparing you to make confident, strategic decisions that drive real business impact. Delivered fully online with a flexible schedule and global accessibility, you’ll also have the opportunity to visit Brown University for an optional 2.5-day residential experience, where hands-on workshops and networking bring the online learning experience to life.

Business Analytics Curriculum & Format

The curriculum spans the full analytics lifecycle, beginning where analytics actually happens with messy, real-world data. Students develop hands-on skills in data curation, exploration and visualization before advancing to statistical modeling, predictive analytics, machine and deep learning, multimodal analytics and generative AI.

Courses emphasize real business problems and applied learning, culminating in a capstone project that integrates multiple analytical approaches to support decision-making. Ethical and responsible use of data and AI are woven throughout the program.

All international applicants whose native language is not English must submit an official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score. See here for exceptions.

The TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition and the IELTS Indicator exam are accepted. The online Master’s in Business Analytics program recommends a minimum score of 577 (pBT) or 90 (iBT). The corresponding minimum IELTS score is 7.

Students from mainland China may submit the TOEFL ITP Plus exam.

Official Transcripts:

Required. All applicants may upload unofficial transcripts for application submission. Official transcripts are ONLY required for enrolling students prior to starting their first semester. An international transcript evaluation (WES, ECE, or SpanTran) is required for degrees from non-U.S. institutions. International transcript evaluations are required for application submission.

Letters of Recommendations:

(3) Required. At least one recommendation letter should be provided from a professional supervisor/manager.

In 1500 words or less, describe your motivation for pursuing the Online Master’s in Business Analytics, articulate your short and long term career goals and how this program will help you achieve them, and discuss how your background has prepared you to pursue an advanced degree. Applicants are required to have at least two years of full-time professional employment experience. This program is ideally suited for currently employed, working-professionals.

Prerequisites:

  • 2 years work experience

  • At least one semester of foundational college-level math or statistics is required. A grade of B or better is recommended.
  • Prior experience in programming languages is preferred, but not required. Experience with open-source languages such as Python, or with data management and analysis systems such as SPSS is recommended.

Most students are self-supported through a combination of scholarships, loans, outside funding, and/or assistantships. Please visit the master's funding website for more information.

Merit-Based Scholarship

The online master’s in business analytics offers limited merit-based scholarships covering up to 50% of tuition costs. All applicants will be reviewed for eligibility and no additional application is required.

Completion Requirements

The program consists of eight courses or 32 academic credits. 

All courses are delivered online, and will have both required asynchronous and optional synchronous components to support student learning.

The program can be completed in as little as 16 months (four consecutive semesters, including summer) on a full-time basis. Full-time status is considered enrollment in two courses per semester. Learn more about the standard course sequence and required courses here.
