Graduate Programs

Students have opportunities to work with graduate biology faculty based on the Brown campus, at nearby hospitals affiliated with Brown's medical school and at the affiliated Marine Biology Laboratories in Woods Hole, Mass. Students have access to cutting-edge research instrumentation and core facilities.

Biology is an application option for those seeking a Ph.D. level education at Brown but who are currently undecided about which of the seven BioMed Ph.D. programs offered to apply to, or those whose interests are at the interface of the offered disciplines.

Biology applications will be reviewed and those invited to be interviewed will meet with current students, faculty and staff of interested Ph.D. graduate programs to learn about the curriculum, degree requirements, research environment, available facilities and resources, and the local Rhode Island communities. If admitted to Brown University, the applicant must matriculate into the Ph.D. program from which the offer was made. Options for the home program are:

  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Computational Biology
  • Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology
  • Molecular Biology, Cell Biology and Biochemistry
  • Neuroscience
  • Pathobiology
  • Therapeutic Sciences
